Somatic therapist Alison Harriman, LCSW Meadow Way Counseling

About Me

Hi, I’m Alison Harriman,

I’m a Licensed Clinical Social Worker providing virtual somatic therapy for adults across Texas, including clients in Allen, Dallas, Austin, Houston, San Antonio, and surrounding cities. I hold a Master’s in Social Work from the University of Texas at Arlington and have training in Sensorimotor Psychotherapy, a body-based approach to working with trauma and nervous system patterns.

My path into this work grew from a deep curiosity about how people make sense of their experiences and why certain patterns in our lives can feel so difficult to change. Over time, I became especially drawn to approaches that include the body—not just the mind. Many people already understand their patterns intellectually, yet their nervous system continues to react in ways that feel automatic or overwhelming. Somatic therapy helps us slow down enough to notice what the body is communicating and begin working with those patterns at their roots.

In my practice, I work with thoughtful, often overwhelmed adults who want to better understand themselves and develop a steadier relationship with their emotions, reactions, and stress.

Values That Guide My Work

Empowerment is central to how I practice therapy. Rather than positioning myself as the expert on your life, I see therapy as a collaborative process that strengthens your own capacity to understand yourself and navigate challenges with greater clarity and confidence.

My work is also grounded in values of inclusivity and cultural humility. I am committed to ongoing learning around anti-racism, LGBTQ+ affirmation, and decolonizing perspectives in mental health. I strive to create a space where people from diverse identities and life experiences feel respected, seen, and supported.

Professional Background

My clinical experience includes work in school settings, community mental health, and PHP/IOP programs, where I supported individuals navigating stress, trauma, and significant life transitions. These experiences helped shape the intentional, nervous system–informed approach I bring to my work today.

I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) and have completed Level 1 training in Sensorimotor Psychotherapy, which informs the somatic and nervous system–focused perspective I use in therapy.

My Approach

My work combines insight-oriented therapy with somatic awareness and nervous system tools. Together, we explore what’s happening in your life while also paying attention to what your body is communicating in real time. Sensations, tension, impulses, and shifts in energy often hold important information about how your nervous system has learned to respond to stress.

I believe therapy should offer both understanding and practical support. Alongside deeper insight, I often share somatic tools that help clients develop greater awareness, emotional regulation, and capacity to navigate challenging moments outside of the therapy room.

Over time, this work helps clients feel more connected to themselves, more compassionate toward their patterns, and more able to respond to life with intention rather than automatic reactions.
